During the recent decade China has turned into a world power. There are clear indicators which suggest that the new Eastern giant will try to maintain and further expand its position.
In spite of the many chances which this country has to offer Westerners often have difficulties to build up a relationship with their Chinese counterparts. Language, business habits, legal system and culture are barriers which seem to be too high. Thus it is no surprise that the Asian country causes ambivalent public reaction in Western countries – either wholesale condemnation or deification.
Furthermore it is not easy to keep pace with the fast development of China. In the past many European companies would merely regard China an inexpensive delivery source for components and finished goods. Recently, however, China has become an interesting sales market. Thus there is a rising interest to establish long-lasting relationships, to develop partnerships, may be even to found a subsidiary and to employ native Chinese.
This development is a big challenge - particularly for small and medium sized companies. Finding trustworthy contacts, the evaluation of markets and locations being based on reliable data, handling bureaucracy, the protection of intellectual property rights and patents are only a few examples for difficulties, which might prevent a promising project from coming into existence.
peterek offers support in conducting business in China. Especially small and medium sized companies are in the focus.
